Sherwood is seeking Montessori teachers at the elementary level for the 2024-2025 school year. We have approximately 120 students in an authentic Montessori setting (TK/K, lower el 1-3, upper el 4-6, Erdkinder 7/8) in the college town of Chico, California. We are a tightknit staff who value collaboration and creating a warm community of connection for our kids, families and each other. We provide a high-quality tuition-free Montessori education in well-equipped classrooms for our students and a professional setting of growth and development for our teachers.

Sherwood Montessori is committed to hiring the most qualified individuals that can demonstrate responsibility for providing both an excellent education and a nurturing environment that is reflective of the school’s mission.  Each teacher at Sherwood Montessori must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited, degree-granting institution and a valid authorization from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) to serve as a California Credentialed teacher.  Teachers with Montessori training from a Montessori-accredited institution would be given strong preference.  Experienced Montessori -trained teachers who possess an Intern Credential will be considered while working toward the completion of their California credential.

Under the supervision of the Director, Sherwood Montessori teachers will provide an effective educational program for students in Montessori curriculum while following the Common Core State Standards.  Teachers will assess the academic needs and identify the learning styles of their students in order to guide individual and large group instruction; maintain a safe and orderly learning environment; establish school-home relationships; emphasize academic learning utilizing effective instructional strategies, techniques and culturally relevant curriculum to support student achievement.
To meet the learning needs of students, teachers will be part of a systematic collaborative process to analyze student data, thus impacting professional practices that result in improved student learning. Teachers must use an educational process that blends teaching knowledge with student performance and demonstrate knowledge of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and the Common Core State Standards. Teachers will be expected to grow as educational professionals to attain greater confidence in teaching skills.

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited, to the following:
1. Implement research-based programs that show consistent and continued gains in student learning and mastery of academic skills.
2. Design and develop an educational environment that accommodates an instructional learning program for students based on Montessori principles and research-based practices.
3. Implement grade level appropriate instructional techniques to foster self-esteem and academic success for students.
4. Use academically culturally appropriate resources and curriculum to guide instruction.
5. Collaboratively develop and responsibly implement individualized educational plans (IEP).
6. Facilitate community outreach.
7. Support and participate in activities of Sherwood Montessori Parent Organization.
8. Collaborate as a member of an educational Professional Learning Community.
9. Set up accountability systems for formative assessments and evaluations of progress, achievement, attitude and/or behavior differences of students.
10. Work with staff, volunteers, tutors, interns, and parents to assist with program implementation.
11. Participate in professional in-service training activities.
12. Use multiple assessments to identify, monitor, assess, and evaluate academic achievement of students.


QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE OF/ABILITY TO:


     1.Use advanced skills in the development of innovative instructional strategies that actively engage students and have a comprehensive understanding of Montessori and Common Core State Standards, demonstrate skills in effective classroom/behavior management, employ differentiated instruction to meet needs of specific student populations (EL, Special Education, low performing, gifted), use assessment data to guide instruction to support student learning and achievement, implement standards-based curriculum and instruction.

  1. Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, families and community representatives of students enrolled.
  2. Establish effective working relationships with community agencies in support of educational, social and emotional needs of students.
  3. Build success with students in fostering civic responsibility and developing positive self-concept.
  4. Have knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction and the incorporation of technology into the classroom environment.
  5. Be experienced in the use of the Common Core State Standards in daily instruction and Montessori curriculum experience preferred.
  6. A successful candidate will have an educational philosophy that embraces inclusion and anti-bias, anti-racist practices in education.

 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

1. Sherwood Montessori is an authentic public Montessori school and employees are expected to be knowledgeable about the implementation of a Montessori educational setting and support this implementation.  We use positive discipline, allow students to make choices, provide opportunities to experience independence as well as interdependence and promote education for peace.

2. A California Teaching Credential authorizing instruction of students (as appropriate for the specific assignment) is required.

 

COMPENSATION:

Placement on the salary schedule is dependent on experience and education.  Compensation is competitive for the area, the most recently approved salary schedule will be provided upon request. Benefits include retirement (STRS), full medical, vision, and dental coverage and half coverage for spouse/partner/dependents. A signing bonus may be offered to the right candidate.

 

OTHER:

1.To comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees must provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
2. Selected candidates may be required to prepare and present a teaching demonstration.
3. FINGERPRINTING FOR A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION IS REQUIRED (and completed upon offer of employment).
