Princeton Montessori School is a co-educational independent school serving over 220 students from infancy through 8th grade. Founded in 1968, our 21-acre campus includes beautiful natural wetlands and a state-of-the-art 52,000-square-foot facility. We are fully accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and Middle States, ensuring a high-quality, authentic Montessori experience for our students.
Who We're Looking For
We seek a dynamic, engaging Montessori teacher for our Upper Elementary program who:
- Loves working with children believes in their innate curiosity for discovering the world around them.
- Has a strong understanding of classroom management, Montessori materials, and subject content and the Upper elementary level.
- Understands the developmental characteristics of children ages 9-12.
- Is organized, articulate, and comfortable communicating with both students and parents in a positive manner.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues and contributes to a professional, supportive environment.
- Brings a passion for nurturing each child’s academic and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
The Upper Elementary Montessori Teacher serves as both a classroom teacher and a key liaison between the school and parents for an assigned group of students. Responsibilities include:
Teaching & Classroom Responsibilities
- Prepare engaging, hands-on lessons and activities using Montessori materials.
- Assess student needs and individualize curriculum based on their abilities.
- Teach core academic subjects at the Upper Elementary level.
- Implement Positive Discipline strategies for behavior management.
- Model Montessori principles and social graces to guide students' development.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Supervise students as needed throughout the day.
Parent & Community Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents of assigned students.
- Maintain open, professional, and supportive communication with families.
- Host twice-yearly parent conferences to discuss student progress.
- Use positive, constructive communication to address parent concerns when needed.
Professional Expectations
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and benchmark achievements in alignment with school policies.
- Prepare conference reports to add to students’ permanent files
- Participate in school-wide initiatives, faculty meetings, field trips, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a classroom atmosphere of curiosity, independence, and respect, in keeping with Montessori principles.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support a cohesive elementary program.
Qualifications & Requirements
- AMS Elementary II Montessori teaching credential (required).
- Bachelor's degree education or related field.
- Excellent technology skills and experience with proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Calendar, etc.).
- A collaborative and professional demeanor.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
