Special Education Focused Elementary Teacher

The Montessori School of McLean (MSM) is seeking a unique individual to join our dynamic Elementary team for the 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for an AMS or AMI certified Elementary (Elementary I/II) who also has Special Education training.

• The ability to teach consistent with Montessori educational practices for the elementary program level
• The ability to use best practices in both Montessori curriculum and Special Education to support students with unique needs
• A love for and deep commitment to working with children in the most formative years of their educational journey
• A warm and positive demeanor in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and parents
• Strong oral and written communication skills with students, faculty, staff and parents
• A growth mindset in presenting and leveraging lessons to support the educational success of elementary students
• The ability to be flexible and work collaboratively with a dynamic elementary team to foster and encourage innovation and excellence in teaching within the Montessori pedagogy
• The ability to prepare and maintain an orderly, attractive, and clean environment in the classroom
• Skills in educational technology

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, preferably in Special Education
• If no Special Education degree, must have certifications in methods such as Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, and/or MACAR
• AMI or AMS Montessori Diploma, or a Montessori Diploma from a MACTE recognized training center for elementary
• Minimum of 2 years elementary teaching experience

School Information:

MSM was founded in 1973 with one elementary and one primary classroom. As we continue into our next 50 years, MSM has grown into a thriving school community with over 235 students from Toddler through Upper Elementary. Located in the Washington DC suburbs in McLean, Virginia, MSM attracts families from across Fairfax and Arlington Counties, and the City of Falls Church. With four spacious acres, MSM offers an AMS-accredited learning environment for students ages 2-12 with two toddler classrooms, five primary classrooms, two lower elementary classrooms, and one upper elementary classroom.
