Upper Elementary Associate Teacher
Job Description: Upper Elementary Associate Teacher (grades 4-6)
Start Date: Late August 2026
Reports to: Head of Elementary Programs
Brief Description: The upper Elementary Associate Teacher is a full-time, ten-month position. The Upper Elementary Associate Teacher will work in conjunction with the Head of Elementary Programs, the Lower Elementary teaching team, the Learning Support Team, the Assistant Head of School, and the Head of School to educate Lower Elementary students in accordance with the BHMS mission, the Statement of Diversity, the principles of Montessori educational philosophy and practices, the curriculum, and BHMS policies. They will partner with the lead teacher in developing a warm, safe, and caring environment in which children may grow and flourish socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a high standard of care and teaching to students during school hours, including vigilance around both safety and learning
- Prepare lessons in collaboration with their Upper Elementary teaching partner and the Upper Elementary Team in the designated subject areas in accordance with the curriculum of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, its mission, and Montessori philosophy
- Prepare, update and share weekly lesson plans with Head of Elementary Programs and teaching partner
- Develop, review, and update curriculum and curriculum maps as needed in conjunction with their Upper Elementary teaching partner, Upper Elementary Team, Head of Elementary Programs, and Assistant Head of School
- Prepare annual statement of goals and objectives for professional development and evaluation
- Be available during school hours to advise parents
- Be in attendance at school in accordance with the times set forth in the letter of agreement
- Be an Advisor to a designated group of students
- Maintain a “prepared” environment in the classroom and other areas used for instruction
- Maintain student records with regard to attendance, achievement, and report-writing
- Prepare reports for parents in accordance with the established policies of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School
- Prepare for and participate in regular parent-teacher conferences as set forth on the school calendar
- Participate in regularly scheduled day and overnight trips with students
- Attend and participate in various evening meetings, such as Back-to-School Night, Parent Education, and Community events
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled program-level, faculty, and faculty and staff meetings
- Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, parents, and other teachers and school personnel
- Comply with the established policies and procedures of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as stated in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
- Model as fully as possible the values in the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School Mission Statement, Diversity Statement, and Community Norms
- Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by the Head of Elementary Programs, the Assistant Head of School, or Head of School
Requirements:
- Degree in Education - BA (BA in Education Preferred)
- Minimum of two years teaching experience (Montessori preferred)
- Montessori Credentials preferred
- Strong work ethic and sense of humor

The salary range is $73,500 - $76,200 (3 to 5 year range ) commensurate with experience, qualifications and aligned with the school’s financial landscape.
