Organization purpose

Montessori del Mundo (MdM) is a public Dual-Language Montessori charter school in Aurora, CO. MdM follows the Montessori philosophy and curriculum and uses a research-based dual-language model with the goal of bilingualism and biliteracy for all students.  Academic instruction in Spanish and English prepares students for the future bilingual world.

The purpose of the Daytime Custodian is to maintain a clean, orderly, safe, and welcoming environment and support instructional and administrative work to grow and develop each child as a bilingual leader.  

 

Accountabilities and Expectations

  • Performing routine custodial duties, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
  • Performing routine maintenance on custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Emptying trash receptacles, bagging trash for proper disposal, and disposing of trash in exterior dumpsters.
  • Reporting safety concerns and maintenance issues to Building Guardian
  • Maintaining an adequate supply of cleaning supplies, soap, sanitizer, and paper goods. 
  • Ensuring proper care,  use, and maintenance of equipment and supplies, and promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety.
  • Assisting in the on-the-job training of new staff on routine sanitizing & disinfecting procedures.
  • Training of students on routine cleanliness procedures.
  • Supporting snow/ice removal as necessary
  • Performing minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, painting, furniture repair, plumbing, and facility repairs.
  • Supporting daily operations with regularly scheduled morning, midday, and/or dismissal duties
  • Maintaining  neat, clean, and orderly maintenance and storage closets
  • Collaborating with all members of the school community

 

Qualifications/Individual Education and Experience

  • Required: 
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Bilingual - ability to speak and write proficiently in both Spanish and English to communicate effectively with both children and adults
  • Previous custodial experience
  • Preferred: 
    • Previous experience working with young children
    • Comfortable with technology, including working on a Chromebook or laptop and using phone apps for communication
    • Experience with Google Suite

Working conditions

The employee will regularly move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs, getting up and down from the floor, walking on uneven surfaces (e.g., the playground), and standing for extended periods. At times, the employee may be required to work outdoors briefly in inclement weather. This position also requires occasional flexibility to support community events held in the evenings and/or on weekends throughout the year.

Physical requirements

This position requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling is required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.  The work environment involves exposure to minor hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

Salary

The starting hourly range for this position is $15.16  - $25.00 per hour, depending on education and experience.
