Purpose: To provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving Montessori environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged and individuality respected with strong understanding of Montessori principles, methodology and curriculum at Toddler level.
o To offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of both the individual and the group.
o To interact with the children and to encourage their involvement in activities.
o To prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing and permits the child to grow and to explore.
o To plan with the co-teacher weekly lesson plans based on a curriculum outline and to provide co-teachers with the opportunity to have input into the program.
o To communicate effectively with fellow teachers and administration.
o To establish and maintain good communications with parents through Brightwheel and on a daily informal basis.
o To change materials according to the children’s skill set.o To help with daily activities including: toilet and diaper needs, snack and lunch set up and clean up, nap set up and clean up, music and art, practical life activities, sensorial work, cooking project and outdoor play time.
o To hold parent-teacher conferences, at least, twice a year (Fall and Spring).
o To observe and give individual and group lessons to all ages.
o Model behavior and enforce ground rules.
o Treat children according to individual needs, remain in contact with whole group and sense changing mood or activity symptoms, and protect working children from interference.
o Make weekly notes for each child’s progress for record keeping.
o To use appropriate and positive discipline.
o To maintain all records and files.
o To attend monthly staff meetings and teacher work days.
o To attend all parent meetings and/or school hosted events: Kindergarten Night, Back to School Night, Garden Day, etc.
o To assess new equipment and supply needs and report those to Head of School.
o To prepare materials necessary for the program.
o To utilize daily prep time to its full potential.
o To keep detailed records, of the progress of each student assigned, will prepare progress reports for each child at least once each semester.
o To engage in activities to renew skills and stimulate teaching ideas: reading professional journals, attending seminars, observing other schools, attending AMS conference, etc. And any other job related duties as assigned.
o Reports to the Head of School on any staff matters.
o Reports to the Head of School in regards to children, parents, and program.
o A Montessori (0-3) Diploma or Certificate from a recognized training center, AMS, AMI, MACTE, etc.
o A Bachelors degree in early childhood education, education or related field or equivalent.
o Infant, Toddler and Primary Teachers: includes 12 semester units or equivalent quarter units covering Child Development, Child Family and Community and Curriculum (Infant requires 3 units related to infant care); and at least 6 months of early childhood classroom work experience.
o Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
o Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
o Evidence of sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively.
o Take daily classroom attendance and track how many children are in the classroom based on age.
o Ability to manage classroom in a calm way.
o Physical stamina.
o Ability to recognize and to record significant individual and group behavior.
o Ability to work cooperatively with co-teachers, communicate effectively and supervise other personnel when necessary.
o CPR Certification/Preventative Health/Fingerprints/TB test
o Time Commitment: As Agreed (11 month school year)
