We are looking for a dynamic, experienced and certified Montessori teacher to lead one of our Upper Elementary classroom in the 2021-2022 School Year. We are the only accredited Montessori school in the Greater San Antonio area, and we are striving to give our children an exceptional education by offering them an authentic Montessori experience.

POSITION TITLE: Upper Elementary Teacher
RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of School

Typical school hours are 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Teachers are expected to attend all school functions, faculty meetings, staff retreat, and professional meetings according to scheduled times. Additional time will be necessary to plan, keep records, to meet with parents, mentoring, making lessons and planning events.

POSITION STATEMENT: The Montessori Teacher is a guide who helps direct his/her student’s activities socially, academically, emotionally, and physically in a prepared Montessori environment that encourages each child to reach his/her fullest potential in these developmental areas. The mission of all Staff at HCMS is to work in cooperation with other Staff, Parents, and Board members to create and sustain a positive school environment. The teacher must act in accordance with the Montessori philosophy, Hill Country Montessori School Mission Statement, Employee Handbook, Parent Policy Handbook, and written policies/procedures.

• Montessori Certification through an AMS, AMI or MCTE Montessori Training Program
• Meet School/state education requirements, including appropriate teaching certification and workshops as required
• At least two years teaching working experience preferably in a Montessori environment


Great communicator with students, parents and administration
Competence in written and oral communication
Demonstrate a broad repertoire of teaching strategies that honor varied learning styles and effectively meet the developmental, cognitive and social needs of students
Possess a love of nature and plans for structured student involvement
Record keeping
Willingness to grow as a teacher
Ability to collaborate


75% of insurance paid by HCMS for teacher
Matching funds up to 3% toward an IRA
Holidays: 1 week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, spring break and 5 days to use as needed for personal needs
We pay for up to 30 hours of Professional Development after coursework is approved by Head of School
Annual Staff one day retreat
60% tuition remission
