Primary (3-6) Lead Teacher

Amherst Montessori School | Amherst, MA, United States

Posted Date 6/29/2020

Amherst Montessori School seeks a Lead Montessori Primary teacher with AMS certification. We are looking for a candidate who is committed to anti-bias education for children of all ages, supports a variety of learning styles, successfully engages children in the rich Montessori curriculum, and has a deep commitment to Montessori for all children. We offer a supportive and invigorating environment for our teachers, whether they are just starting their Montessori careers or have many years of experience.

Amherst Montessori School is an independent school, affiliated with the American Montessori Society. We have a dedicated staff serving 85 children enrolled for the 2020-21 school year and they range in age from 3 months to 12 years. Our staff is bound together by a commitment to our school’s Harmony Agreements and to our ongoing growth as a community of lifelong learners.

During the 2020-21 school year, our Children’s House program is reducing class size in compliance with the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) guidelines for reopening after a three-month closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. This reduction means that we are adding two additional Children’s Houses. We have also limited the age range in each classroom. This opening is for a school-day Montessori Primary Lead Teacher for a group of 10 children (ages 3 and 4) with an experienced Assistant Teacher.

The Primary Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment guided by the Montessori philosophy and curriculum. Through consistent, patient, and loving role modeling and clear procedures, the Lead Teacher creates an atmosphere of peace and calm in the classroom. Through observation and consultation, the Lead Teacher meets the learning and developmental needs of each individual child and the group as a whole and communicates skillfully and frequently with parents as well as colleagues.

The ideal candidate will have
