Full job description

A Montessori Teacher’s role is creating a nurturing and educational environment for students. Implementation of Montessori principles and techniques, facilitates student engagement, and helps maintain the classroom's organization and cleanliness. This position requires a strong commitment to the Montessori philosophy and a genuine passion for working with young children.

Montessori Teacher Responsibilities:

• Prepare the learning environment, set up materials, and ensure a safe and organized classroom space.
• Assist students individually or in small groups, providing guidance and support in their activities based on the Montessori curriculum.
• Implement Montessori lessons and activities across different subject areas, fostering student engagement and independent learning.
• Observe and assess students' progress, documenting their development, achievements, and areas of improvement as per Montessori guidelines.
• Classroom Management: Promote a positive and respectful classroom environment by enforcing rules, assisting with discipline when necessary, and encouraging cooperation among students.
• Supervision and Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of students during classroom activities, outdoor play, field trips, and other school-related events.
• Communication: Maintain open communication with Co-teachers, parents, and other staff members regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns or updates.
• Maintain the maintenance, organization, and proper storage of Montessori materials, ensuring their availability and good condition for student use.
• Collaborate with parents, providing them with insights into their child's progress and suggesting ways to reinforce Montessori principles at home.
• Ensures all child paperwork is up to date and complete.
• Follows all ODJFS and SUTQ rules and requirements.
• Participating in school activities and accompanying students on field trips.
• Interviewing and assisting with the training of all new teachers.
• Following the requirements for CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program). Prepping and serving snacks throughout the day, providing a clean space for breakfast & PM snack & completing all required documentation.

Center community support:

• Attend CMEC family events.
• Participate in the preparation of family events.
• Help maintain the school environment.
• Meet regularly with the program lead.
• Communicate effectively to staff, parents, and community regarding program mission, philosophy, and curriculum.

Professionalism:

• Maintain confidential information.
• Engage in at least 15 hours of professional development per year to improve personal and professional skills.
• Show initiative in implementation of job duties and responsibilities.
• Respond thoughtfully and appropriately to observations and recommendations by center staff.

Montessori Teacher Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood teaching, education, or a related discipline is recommended.
• Completed training at an accredited Montessori Teacher Education Program.
• CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease, Child Abuse
• Additional courses or training in education would be advantageous.
• Passionate about alternative education.
• An ability to teach groups of children of varying ages, needs, and abilities.
• Patience and excellent observational, communication, and diagnostic skills.
• The ability to multitask, keep calm under pressure, and treat everyone with love and respect.
• Planning and organizational skills.
• A lifelong learner who can be a good role model for children.
