MCH offers a progressive and comprehensive curriculum built on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori to children aged two and a half years through twelve, or pre-primary through sixth grade. Job Description: Upper Elementary Teacher (Fourth-Sixth Grade)
Start Date: August 2025
Reports to: Head of School
Description: The Upper Elementary Teacher is a full-time, 10-month position. The Upper Elementary Teacher will work in partnership with the Elementary teaching team and the Head of School to educate and support Upper Elementary students in accordance with the principles of Montessori educational philosophy and teaching practices, and the mission, the curriculum, and the policies of Montessori Children’s House. The Teacher is responsible for the teaching of all curriculum areas including Practical Life, Language, Sensorial, Math, Science, History and Geography studies, along with emotional and social skills.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a high standard of care and teaching to students during school hours, including vigilance around both safety and learning
- Daily attendance according to times listed in letter of agreement
- Prepare lessons along the designated subject areas in accordance with the curriculum of Montessori Children’s House, its mission, and Montessori philosophy
- Develop, review, and update curriculum and extensions as needed with collaborating teachers in the Elementary program
- Coordinate meaningful and relevant Going Outs that align with the curriculum
- Maintain a peaceful, prepared environment in the classroom
- Maintain student records with regard to attendance, progress and concerns
- Prepare progress reports for parents in accordance with the established policies of Montessori Children’s House
- Prepare for and lead regular parent-teacher conferences
- Attend and participate in various evening or weekend events, such as Back-to-School Night, Parent Education, and Community events
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled program-level and staff meetings
- Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, parents, and other teachers
- Comply with the established policies and procedures of Montessori Children’s House as stated in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
- Model as fully as possible the values in the Montessori Children’s House Mission Statement, Diversity Statement
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- AMS/AMI/MACTE Approved Upper Elementary/EII Montessori teaching credential required
