Wellan Montessori School is currently seeking an interim Art Teacher to cover a maternity leave (full time) beginning on January 6, 2020 (likely through mid-May).
The interim Art Teacher will oversee operation in the art classroom while the Art Program Coordinator is on maternity leave, and is responsible for teaching students ranging in age from 3 to 14 years (preschool through grade 8) using multiple media, such as painting, drawing, still life, printmaking, clay, etc. The interim Art Teacher will implement curriculum based on the established plan and curricular goals for the school year, and work with the Primary Assistant Art Teacher to ensure that standards are met consistently. The interim Art Teacher will also lead art classes as part of the after school program twice a week. The interim Art Teacher must excel at preparation of the relevant curriculum, preparing the environment, and taking responsibility for creating and maintaining an orderly, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children in classes. Additionally, the teacher should be prepared and willing to showcase student artwork in the classroom(s) and areas designated by the school.
The ideal candidate will be well organized and flexible; have strong classroom management skills; have strong verbal and written communication skills; and be able to collaborate with other educators in our community to create an environment where children learn, socialize, explore, and grow together as global citizens.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in art/arts education preferred.
- Desire to work with students age 3 through grade 8
- Ability to design and implement age-appropriate curricula
- Independent school experience preferred
- Strong communication skills verbally and in writing
- Desire to work closely with highly skilled colleagues
- Patience and a sense of humor
