Montessori Preschool/Kindergarten Director Position


Position Title: Preschool/Kindergarten Director


Classification: Full Time, Exempt


Reports to: Management Team


Mission Bay Montessori Academy is searching for a full-time Director for its Montessori Preschool/Kindergarten in the University City/UTC area of San Diego.  We are looking to fill this position by July of 2019.




This position requires a seasoned educator who shows strong leadership, organizational, and management skills. Directors are dynamic, savvy, personable, and well-versed in Montessori philosophy and principles, multiple theories, and methods of Early Childhood Education. We seek candidates who embody the above and infect those around them with inspiration, motivation and desire to be excellent educators and advocates for children. Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or Program Director Permit and Master degree are highly desirable.




  • Oversee the daily overall operation of the school
  • Ensure that proper staffing ratios are met daily
  • Supervise Aides, Teacher Assistants, Teachers, Master Teachers, Office Manager
  • Maintain employee files
  • Conduct employee reviews
  • Direct outreach and enrollment functions and procedures, including but not limited to admissions tours, Open Houses, enrollment paperwork, interviews with prospective families, etc.
  • Hire and recruit teachers and staff
  • Conduct professional development with staff
  • Lead staff meetings
  • Assist management as needed with payroll, tuition, and other financial matters
  • Work with staff members to ensure that a developmentally-appropriate, Montessori-inspired curriculum is being implemented in the classrooms
  • Comply with all Title 22, Division 12 regulations (Community Care Licensing) and interface with Licensing analysts
  • Complete general housekeeping tasks and ensure the good function of the school’s physical plant; obtain outside maintenance help as needed
  • Communicate regularly with Management
  • Communicate daily with parents and maintain a good relationship
  • Foster good relationships with the school’s neighbors
  • Observe, record and report on children’s behavior as needed to the management as per protocol
  • Report to Community Care Licensing, Child Protective Services, and other official agencies as necessary, confirming to all applicable laws and regulations
  • Perform basic First Aid as needed and follow the procedure for reporting injuries
  • Attend school-related, company-related and community events, and represent the school in a positive and professional manner
  • Maintain a pleasant and professional demeanor at all times
  • Other tasks as assigned






  • 4+ years of successful teaching experience and two years of school leadership experience
  • Montessori teaching certificate AMS or AMI
  • Bachelor’s required.  ECE or closely related field is desirable
  • Completion of 6 ECE units in Administration of Early Childhood programs plus 2 units of Supervising Adults
  • Understanding of Title 22 regulations
  • Successful Pediatric CPR certification, First Aid Training, and 15 hours of preventive health practices training are required upon hiring
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and cultivate relationships
  • Proficient in the use of computers
