South Suburban Montessori School is currently seeking a compassionate, inspirational and hard-working individual to join it Elementary teaching team for the 2024-2025 school year. We seek a motivated individual with a strong love and respect for children, excellent communication and leadership skills and who values working as a member of a team. The ideal candidate will also embrace the opportunity to grow in his/her knowledge of Montessori philosophy and pedagogy and wish to be a part of the SSMS community for many years to come. The ideal candidate will hold or be in process of completing his/her Montessori teaching credential from AMI or AMS. 

South Suburban Montessori School is dedicated to providing an authentic Montessori education to children between 18 months and 14 years. South Suburban Montessori School is fully accredited with the American Montessori Society and licensed with the Ohio Department of Education.

Overarching Responsibility of the Position: To cultivate each child’s own natural desire to learn by creating an environment of choice and an opportunity for perfecting each child’s own natural tools for learning. Guide the children toward self-reliance and self-sufficiency.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Create, develop, plan, prepare, present and review educational curriculum to children according to the Montessori pedagogy and consistent with Montessori principles. This includes practical life, math, language, sensorial and cultural elements such as geography, science, history, art, and music.
  • Organize and maintain an aesthetically pleasing, enticing and clean classroom. Prepare and develop a Montessori environment that supports the developmental needs of the children. Adapt materials and information to the actual learners.  Assure freedom of choice and appropriate levels of stimulation.
  • Support the academic, social, physical, and emotional development of students by adhering to best Montessori practices.
  • Guide, influence, and train assistant in classroom protocol and environment. Evaluate performance and provide feedback.
  • Assure safety and security of all children during school hours of work, rest, and play (indoors and outdoors).
  • Assess students, document and maintain thorough and accurate records. This may include but is not limited to cumulative reports, weekly lesson plans, and anecdotal observations.       
  • Sustain regular interpersonal connections and communications with parents, colleagues, and head of school directly and through e-mail, and telecommunications. Keep parents informed.  Maintain positive relationships.
