Center Director Position Summary
The VA Kids Center (VAKC) seeks a Center Director who is passionate about early childhood care and education, embodies collaborative leadership. The Center Director should be dedicated to the cultivation of strong relationships and partnerships among staff, families, children and community members. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, the Center Director oversees VAKC’s strategic development, budgeting, and management while partnering with staff in providing quality care to children and families.
Starting salary dependent on education and experience, minimum of $49,920. Schedule is full-time based on a 40 hour work week Monday – Friday during VAKC hours.

Requirements
- Demonstrated child care center management/leadership experience. At least 5 years of combined experience working with children in a lead teaching position and/or working as the director of a child care center
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Child Care, Education, or related field
- Wisconsin Registry: preliminary qualification of center director
- Must be willing and able to complete additional training requirements as required
- Knowledge of state licensing requirements; willing to become familiar with NAEYC accreditation process
- Must pass state and federal background checks with no criminal violations or offenses substantially related to the care of children
- Occasional night or weekend work may be needed (staff meetings, board meetings, etc.)
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to take on classroom duties as needed and supervise field trips in the community
- Must be able to use a computer with basic proficiency
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds, work both indoors and outdoors, comfortably stand, sit and kneel that allows physical and visual contact with young children
About VA Kids Center
The mission of the VA Kids Center is to provide high quality early care and education for children of VA Hospital employees, other federal employees and the community. Nestled in the Madison VA Hospital campus, adjacent to UW Hospital and UW Madison, VAKC provides high-quality programming that is child-centered and play-based for children ages six weeks to six years. Staff are guided in curriculum implementation and classroom environment by NAEYC accreditation standards and the Montessori Philosophy. VAKC offers a home-like setting with small class sizes and low staff-to-child ratios. This supportive and enriching environment fosters each child's individual social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
