The Upper Elementary Montessori Assistant Teacher is responsible for all aspects related to supporting the teacher in their efforts to advance the education of the students under the teacher’s charge, utilizing the best principles and practices based in the Montessori pedagogy of education. The assistant supports the teacher in delivering the core Montessori philosophy of respect for the individual child, preparation of the environment, fostering independence, order, and concentration in the child, respect for sensitive periods, recognizing the importance of intrinsic motivation and the absorbent mind.
Principal Responsibilities
- Participates in classroom community events and prepares the classroom environment.
- Supports the learning process in the classroom by assisting individuals with academic, social, and personal growth and by delivering lead-teacher-prepared small group lessons.
- Creates a positive environment with the lead teacher in which all children feel known and valued and modeling grace and courtesy when interacting with other adults as a model for the children to emulate.
- Collaborates with other assistant teachers and lead teachers to ensure a safe and healthy student experience during lunch and recess each day.
- Participates in level and faculty meetings and all-school professional development meetings
- Supports student social development and behavior in alignment with Positive Discipline guidelines.
- Communicates in a timely and efficient manner with colleagues.
- Engages in continuing professional growth and development practices.
- Participating in the life of the school through regular presence at major events as a means of supporting the students and the mission of the school

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of two years classroom experience or working with students. Montessori classroom experience a plus.
- Passion and joy for working with school-aged children (9-12 years old) and an enthusiasm for learning.

- Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations: First Aid/CPR certification required (school will sponsor)

Position Classification
10-month, faculty, non-exempt, part-time hourly position from 8am-1pm Monday through Friday. The position begins on August 14, 2024.
