Primary Drama Teacher (part-time, part-time, 8-12 hours/week beginning in September 2019)
NMS is currently seeking a part-time Primary Drama teacher to direct several short plays, each featuring a group of students ages 3-6. The position will begin in September 2019. Hours will be somewhat irregular, but generally occurring in the morning, between 8:30 and 11:00. Attendance at occasional staff meetings and school events may be required.
The focus of the program is on developing each child's individual voice for self-expression and love for the creative arts. Skills emphasized include oral fluency, ability to follow directions, respect for and collaboration with others, and understanding of stage performance and audience etiquette, as well as the themes of the plays selected. This position involves collaborating with the Drama Program Coordinator on scripts and with the Music and Art teachers on music and stage sets.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with preschool-aged students and a background in drama, music, and movement. The candidate should be patient, flexible, professional, and dependable; have strong multi-tasking and classroom management skills; and have the ability to collaborate with other educators in our community to create an environment where children learn, socialize, explore, and grow together. A flexible schedule is essential.
- This is a part-time position (no benefits) for the 2019 2020 school year.
- Hours are M-F, approximately 8:30 to 11:00, with some deviation.
- Salary is competitive/commensurate with experience.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Experience working with children ages 3-6 in a school setting
- Background in drama, music, and/or movement.
- At least 3 professional references
- Bachelor's Degree or beyond in related field.
Preferred Additional Experience:
- Familiarity with Montessori environment
