The Early Childhood Education and Montessori Programs at St. Catherine University invite applications for Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education positionstarting Spring 2024-2025 academic year.

The position with support the Early Childhood and Montessori Program. This includes the planning and on going maintenance of our strategic plan to support students in our certificate, bachelors, and masters programs. The person in this role will also have a small teaching load to lead courses in ECE and the Montessori MAED programs.

Note: Residency in the Twin Cities Metro area is required. This position will support the summer intensive Early Childhood Montessori training program, develop school partnerships, and organize practicum and exam experiences for AMS students. 

Responsibilities Include:
  • Scheduling and conducting regular department meetings
  • Working with department members on developing and maintaining the curriculum
  • Making recommendations to the academic dean on course schedules, on faculty appointments and assignments, and on the department budget
  • Conducting course and faculty evaluations
  • Overseeing hiring
  • Supervising support staff
  • Preparing the departmental annual report
  • Reporting to their respective dean
  • Participating regularly in chair and program director meetings
  • Prepare and teach in-person Montessori methods courses, as assignment. Prepare and teach online courses in the ECE bachelor degree and in the MAED programs.
    Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities, affirming the worth and preserving the dignity of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Develop and pursue an innovative and respected program of research in their area of interest and expertise to advance the discipline and inform classroom teaching. Through this, collaborate with undergraduate students in research.
  • Provide service to the Department and University.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education (Focused on Education related field e.g., Early Childhood Education, Child Development)

  • Montessori credentialed at the primary level (ages 3-6) from a MACTE approved training program (AMS preferred)

  • A minimum of 3 years full time experience as the lead teacher or teacher of record in an early childhood Montessori classroom

  • Knowledge of a broad variety of early childhood education theories, curriculum and program models

  • Knowledge of and commitment to anti-bias and anti-racist pedagogy and curriculum

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral level degree in Education or related field in preparation to teach Action Research courses (Introduction to Action Research and Integration Seminar)
  • American Montessori Society (AMS) certified
  • ?Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program in Early Childhood Education (Birth to Grade 3) or K-6 with Preprimary Endorsement

  • Current or past professional license that align(s) with available courses

  • Critical, self-reflective pedagogy, and anti-oppressive practice experience

  • Experience teaching and mentoring diverse populations

  • Experience working with non-traditional adult college students

  • Experience delivering instruction in both face-to-face and online learning environments

  • Experience supervising and supporting teachers
