Shenandoah Montessori School is seeking an experienced Lower Elementary teacher for the 2025-2026 year and beyond. Located in Winchester, Virginia, Shenandoah Montessori School is one of only two Montessori programs in one of the fastest growing counties in the state. We are a young program, about to begin our fourth year and are expanding to meet the needs of our community.

This person will be joining a small, passionate team of teachers who are committed to promoting Montessori education and building a reputation for excellence and integrity. 

Job Description: Lower Elementary Teacher (First-Third Grade)

Start Date: Summer of 2025 for classroom set-up

Description: The Lower Elementary Teacher is a full-time, 10-month position, with the possibility for summer hours, depending on interest. The Teacher is responsible for the teaching of all curriculum areas including Practical Life, Language, Sensorial, Math, Science, History and Geography studies, along with emotional and social skills. Together with the School Director and Primary Lead Teachers, the Lower Elementary Teacher will work to build a sense of community, foster positive relationships among students and families, and promote the benefits of Montessori education to the greater community.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional care for students and adhere to high standards of safety and learning
  • Prepare lessons along the designated subject areas in accordance with the curriculum of Shenandoah Montessori School, its school mission, and Montessori philosophy, as outlined by AMS
  • Develop, review, and update curriculum and extensions as needed 
  • Maintain a peaceful, prepared environment in the classroom 
  • Work respectfully with an assistant teacher and additional support staff
  • Maintain student records with regard to attendance, progress and concerns
  • Prepare progress reports for parents in accordance with the established policies and timeline provided by the school
  • Prepare for and lead regular parent-teacher conferences 
  • Attend and participate in various scheduled evening or weekend events, such as Back-to-School Night, Parent Education, and Community events
  • Attend and participate in scheduled, in-house school events and staff meetings
  • Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with other teachers, students, parents, and support staff
  • Comply with the established policies and procedures of Shenandoah Montessori School as stated in the Staff Handbook
  • Meet requirements for additional staff training and ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrate respect for self and others at all times

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • AMS /AMI / MACTE Approved Lower Elementary/EL Montessori teaching credential required

Preferred:

  • Three years experience, preferred, but will consider qualified candidates with less experience who demonstrate the level of maturity and responsibility we are looking for to help us take our school to the next level

Hours, Compensation, and Benefits:

  • Monday through Friday
  • 7:30am to 3:30pm
  • August 1, 2025 through May 31, 2026, summer hours optional
  • $36,000 to $40,000 (10 months)
  • Paid time off, holidays, and school breaks
