International Montessori School seeks a full-time elementary teacher to join our staff in August 2024. Responsibilities include teaching a lower elementary Montessori class in Mandarin Chinese with the possibility of working with either a certified co-teacher or an adult learner pursing Montessori certification.

Our school enjoys a diverse, international staff who provide a language immersion Montessori education for our students. We have three lower elementary classrooms providing an authentic Montessori education in Spanish, French or Mandarin Chinese in a 100% one-way immersion model in addition to one upper elementary classroom that is conducted in English in the mornings and in the immersion language in the afternoons. 

The Position

  • Co-lead a class of up to 25 students (currently anticipating 15 students for the fall)
  • Deliver established Montessori scope and sequence in Mandarin Chinese
  • Design the Montessori classroom environment, creating materials and designing activities as necessary for the success of the classroom and children.
  • Create, manage and maintain a safe (emotionally and physically) joyful, positive atmosphere for the children
  • Carefully observe individual children to gain insight into their needs, and problem solve their challenges in order to meet those needs
  • Be a positive and collaborative leader for Assistant Teachers and/or Floaters who support the classroom
  • Participate in and help lead Family Education evening events
  • Maintain a strong home/school partnership by ensuring consistent, respectful and open lines of communication with parents
  • Complete progress reports and parent-teachers conferences for all students twice a year

Traits and Requirements

  • Fluent Chinese speaker
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years’ experience as a classroom teacher, Montessori Guide, and/or Montessori Assistant
  • Montessori Credential from a MACTE accredited center or a willingness to complete school-sponsored AMS Montessori training.
  • A love for teaching 6-9 year old children
  • Strong understanding of childhood development
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with and among students and parents
  • Ability and interest in collaborative work with colleagues
  • Ability to meet varied demands and deadlines with integrity, enthusiasm, creativity, and flexibility
  • Demonstrated interest in and affinity for the Montessori philosophy and IMS’ mission
