Lakeland Montessori Public Schools has a rare opening for a Secondary (grades 7 and 8) Co-Teacher for the 2024-2025 School Year. Unique opportunity to work alongside our experienced Montessori teacher in our Secondary classroom of only 30 students (multi-grade classroom of 7th and 8th grades combined) while receiving training through Houston Montessori Center in Secondary I/II. Houston Montessori Center is an AMS (American Montessori Society) accredited program and the certification that you will receive will enable you to work in any Montessori school world wide. Must hold or be able to obtain a Professional Teaching Certificate in grades 5-9 Math, Language Arts, Social Science and Science. Salary begins at $30,000 while attending the one year training and co-teaching full time then moves to full salary ($48,500 - $64,072 depending on years of experience) upon completion of the training.

 

All of our classrooms, age 3-15, are included in our Accredited School status through the American Montessori Society (AMS) and through Cognia/AdvancED. We are in our 20th year of operation and are committed to serving as a model public Montessori school to help fully implemented public Montessori education become a reality for more children across the nation. Candidates must already hold a Bachelor’s Degree.

 

We currently have over a thousand students on our waitlist, however, our employee’s children receive preference for enrollment. Our employees are also provided with 10 paid days of leave, $993 per month towards the choice of benefits, and an excellent retirement plan. Our retirement contribution for last year was 12% of employee pay--NO MATCHING REQUIREMENT AND NO 3% DEDUCTION FROM YOUR PAY (Polk County Public Schools deducts 3% of employee salary).

Responsibilities:

 

Curriculum:

  • Establish the morning and afternoon work period and give lessons as needed.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom true to the Montessori philosophy, paying

particular attention to the needs of students.

  • Implement the two year Houston Montessori  curriculum plan..
  • Schedule and organize all field trips.

 

Communication:

  • Facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict

resolution and Grace and Courtesy lessons.

  • Communicate with parents about their children’s school lives every week and educate parents in Montessori philosophy.
  • Prepare for and schedule goal-setting conferences with all parents during the

First nine weeks of the school year 

  • Schedule and work with other faculty for four Parent Class Meetings
  • Meet weekly with teaching team (assistant teacher)

 

Record keeping:

  • Carefully observe and keep daily records on each student’s individual progression

through the classroom.

  • Maintain the school’s system of record keeping.
  • Follow all guidelines outlined in the Teacher Assessment Guidelines (TAG) for your age level
  • Complete individual learning plans and conference forms for all students.
  • Keep a school calendar of events.
  • Supervision of Classroom Assistants and Interns



Classroom Administration:

  • Report any maintenance issues to the Dean of Students
  • Care for all classroom animals and plants.
  • Organize planning time for changing out material, cleaning and reorganizing works.

 

Hours:

8:00 am – 4:00 pm including a half hour lunch break.

 

Requirements

Lead teacher must meet the following basic requirements:

Must already hold a Bachelor's Degree (in order to obtain a State of Florida teaching certificate) and hold a certification from any MACTE accredited Montessori training center for Secondary I.

Have the physical capacity to work with Middle School aged children.

Upon selection, a background check and drug screening must be passed prior to beginning the school year.
