Position: School Operations Manager
Department: School Administration
Position Type: 10 or 12-month

Hours: Full or part-time; 10:30 am – 6:30 pm or 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm


Job Summary: Bergen-Lafayette Montessori School is seeking a skilled and dynamic School Operations
Manager to assist with oversight of the daily operations of our school. This role is ideal for a creative thinker who
thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is comfortable with the unique challenges of small
early childhood educational settings. The successful candidate will manage school operations, supervise
after-school program staff, and ensure effective communication with parents.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Commitment to Education: Uphold and promote our child-centered Montessori educational
    philosophy.
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily school operations, ensuring compliance with licensing
    requirements and adherence to school policies.
  • Documentation and Revisions: Observe, document, and review school processes to update and
    create manuals of operation.
  • Facilities Management: Guide staff in maintaining an aesthetically pleasing environment in line
    with American Montessori Society standards.
  • State Voucher Program: Manage and oversee the successful implementation of the state
    voucher program.
  • Parent Communication: Manage and address parent communications, resolve issues, and
    interact with parents during after-school program hours.
  • After-School Program Supervision: Supervise after-school program staff to ensure quality care
    and effective program implementation.
  • Administrative Functions: Perform administrative tasks including responding to emails,
    maintaining staff and student files, and managing inventory.
  • Operational Streamlining: Improve and document procedures, automate processes where
    feasible, and streamline school operations.
  • Inventory and Maintenance: Ensure adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, coordinate maintenance, and manage operational requirements as outlined by the New Jersey Department of Children & Families Office of Licensing.
  • Staffing and Support: Ensure appropriate staffing levels in classrooms and administrative roles, manage staff time reporting, and coordinate substitute coverage.
  • Community and Representation: Support healthy relationships with families, serve as a liaison with regulating entities, represent the administration at school events, and provide direct supervision of After-school Enrichment Program staff.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of operations experience in a school or childcare setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Comfortable with learning new technology.
  • Open to understanding and adapting to the school’s current operations structure.
  • Teamwork attitude with effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced and innovative environment.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pass criminal background, child abuse clearance, and health checks.
  • Experience managing inventory, coordinating maintenance, and ensuring compliance with operational requirements.
  • Willingness to engage with the virtues-based community values of respect, peace, and excellence.
