Teachers at MMS care deeply about the children at each level of the school. Each program at MMS provides an appropriate environment prepared and maintained by the teachers for the level of the children in the class. The teacher’s position is one of a guide, directing the children’s activities academically, socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually in a manner that fosters the overall development and well-being of each child.

Teachers nurture the student/parent/teacher relationship with specific timely, clear and compassionate communications. Our teachers work cooperatively with the adults in the school to create a respectful and supportive environment, which fosters a team effort between the adults.

Teachers demonstrate a demeanor that suggests joy in learning and respect for others as well as model self-discipline and ethical behavior. They collaborate as a team player with teaching colleagues and administration.

Teachers engage in educating parents about Montessori philosophy and MMS programs by showcasing their teaching and communicating with prospective and current families.

Teachers participate in on-going professional development via research, workshop attendance, visiting other classes and schools, supporting peers, and classroom observation. MMS has a self-evaluation process for personal and teaching growth that is reviewed and discussed annually.

For elementary positions, the following is expected: a strong background in language arts and math; a Master's degree is preferred; three years of teaching experience with hands-on student project design; classroom management skills; and strong communication skills that include written and oral presentations.
