Job Description
Job Title: Head of School
Reports to: Board of Directors
Summary: Act as Head of School, appointed by the Board of Directors (“The Board”) to administer and implement the school’s broad educational mission and policies as established by the Board; provides day-to-day educational leadership for the school.

Education/Experience:
? Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
? MA in education, business, or equivalent Montessori Administrator Credential
- OR a combination of education and experience
Language Ability:
? Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, educational reports, and legal documents
? Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff, families, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
Computer Skills:
? Knowledge of G Suite and other apps/software used for word processing and financial spreadsheets
? General skill in navigating computer-based programs
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
? Supports student experiences and ensures the continuation of the Montessori philosophy within the classrooms and community
? Fostering parent involvement, community engagement, and family retention
? Engaging and reporting to the Board of Directors and Board Committees
? Recruiting, developing and leading faculty and staff
? Supporting the Director of Business Operations with financial management and facilities operations
? Overseeing and supporting enrollment and marketing strategies
? Works to promote harmonious relationships among students, faculty and staff
Student Engagement:
? Demonstrate a dedication to the cultivation of the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of the students
? Fosters diversity and inclusion among the community
? Supports selection of student of activities and special programming
? Oversees the school safety programs, including building security, emergency procedures, safety drills, licensing and certification, etc. and ensures staff training to support these programs
? Collaborates with the Student Support Team and Lead Guides to ensure student challenges are identified and progress is monitored on a timely basis with both academic and behavioral support. Responsible for student disciplinary decisions and communication with the SST and families.
? Approves and administers rules, procedures, and support in governing the student body
Community Engagement:
? Collaborates and supports The Flock parent group in coordinating community on campus events that promote school wide engagement
? Fosters and supports parent involvement, engagement and volunteerism
? Offers opportunities for parent conversations regarding Montessori and child development, such as Parent Coffee and Parent Educations nights
? Communicates weekly with parents and community members regarding community updates, important events, policy changes or other necessary information
? Establishes and oversees programs for after-hours, including Junior Village, Village and Summer Village
Board Relations The Board of Directors delegates the full responsibility of School management and implementation of the policies and directives to the Head of School. Further, the Head of School supervises and manages the daily operations of the school. The Head of School is a non-voting member of the board and all board committees.
? Offers a report at Board Meetings on matters related to operations, staff relations, school events, enrollments, community engagements and other pertinent information
? Provides key status updates and collaborates with the Board to develop long term strategic plans and establish policies and processes to accomplish the mission of the school
? Works with the Director of Business Operations regarding the creation and direction of fiscally sound operating and capital budgets and financial plans to be recommended to the Board for their approval
Curriculum & Instruction:
? Ensures all school related decisions maintain the Montessori philosophy and maintain that focus of the school
? Works with staff to identify curriculum needs related to teaching materials, faculty and program support
? Upholds the academic and ethical standards of the school
? Supports the professional development and additional training of the staff
? Observes regularly in classrooms at each level within the school
? Supports the AMS recognition, consultation and accreditation processes
? Ensures the standards for recognition, accreditation and licensing are maintained from year to year
? Oversee development and implementation of clear and timely communication with families
Personel:
? Fosters professionalism, team building, and ethical conduct in the staff
? Assures the staff understand and share the school’s Montessori philosophy and goals
? Defines the faculty and staff positions needed to implement the school’s program
? Recruits highly qualified faculty members
? Helps The Board with dismissals of faculty and staff who fail to meet such standards
? discipline, training and development of all professional staff
? Establishes practices and procedures to promote harmonious and constructive relationships among staff, promoting high morale;
? Follows a collegial managerial style rather than authoritarian
? Identifies personnel issues as early as possible
Business, Finance and Facility Operations:
? Works collaboratively with the Director of Business Operations
? Understands and assists with the business functions for the school, including budgeting, monitoring and reporting of income, expenses, investments and cash flow, and maintenance of appropriate records
? Oversees all employment and human relations matters, such as contracts, job assignments, job orientation, staff training, retention and dismissals, personnel records, etc.
? Oversees the maintenance and cleaning of the buildings, grounds, and all facility operations
Admissions:
? Supervises and assists the enrollment and admissions functions of the school
? Supports admission events and community outreach and facilitates school tours
? Helps administer the school's scholarship program
? Works to sustain optimal enrollment
Fundraising:
? Plans and helps coordinate major fundraising events
? Supervises volunteer efforts to support the school's fundraising
? Collaborates with committees and groups to support fundraisers and community service programs
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
