Responsibilities:

Lead Teacher Job Description

Curriculum:

  • Consistently strive to meet all responsibilities of customer service, guiding and nurturing the development and learning of primary students.
  • Provide (identifiable activity routines for the students) a prepared environment, offering and facilitating activity “transitions,” observing the students constantly.
  • Establish the morning and extended day work period and give lessons as needed.
  • Establish and maintain classroom true to the Montessori philosophy, paying particular attention to the needs of students.
  • Implement and update curriculum as student needs dictate.
  • Plan, prepare and maintain all units of study – including Montessori materials, thematic units, library books, etc.
  • Maintain records of all curriculum planning and execution.
  • Schedule all guest presenters and organize all field trips.
  • Maintain knowledge of local elementary expectations for kindergarten readiness, keeping these in mind while guiding the learning process.

Communication:

  • Facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and Grace and Courtesy lessons.
  • Maintain a cordial working environment in the school by addressing concerns promptly.
  • You will report all incidents to the Administrator who will keep the Head of School informed.
  • Communicate via monthly newsletters (email) with parents about their children’s school lives and educate parents in Montessori philosophy.
  • Prepare for and schedule 3 individual communications with all parents during the year –including 2 physical parent conferences and 1 telephone conversation.
  • Schedule and work with other faculty for any joint Parent Nights, programs/performances, etc.
  • Meet individually with prospective parents and students.
  • Promote Montessori primary/elementary program and school readiness with parents.
  • Encourage parental involvement and support student’s relationship with family by:
  • Providing opportunities to appreciate student’s families as a part of Montessori program;
  • Using information about families’ culture in experiences offered to students.

Care

  • Maintain constant supervision of students in care; attend to students in distress. Supervise all activities to ensure proper participation and safety.
  • Use appropriate positive Montessori discipline techniques with students.
  • Interact with the students in a friendly and supportive manner using student’s names with calm tone of voice.
  • Follow policy and procedures for all of the students’ activities and follow all regulatory agency standards.
  • Report to the Administrator any signs of illness, injury or abuse of students. Take appropriate action in any emergency situation.
  • Maintain CIVID-19 sanitary standards for self and students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records of students.

Record keeping:

  • Carefully observe and keep daily records on each student’s individual progression through the classroom and log into Brightwheel to record daily.
  • Maintain the school’s system of record keeping.
  • Complete individual learning plans and conference forms for all students.
  • Keep a school calendar of events.

Supervision of Classroom Assistants and Interns:

  • Establish a harmonious relationship with assistant and intern.
  • Support the Toddler Room Staff.
  • Participate in staff evaluation.
  • Support interns in every way possible.
  • Report to the Administrator, regarding intern’s progress fortnightly.

Training:

  • Any license, certificates or specialized ongoing training that are required by state law or regulatory agencies to be the Director of the Montessori School with the OCC. For example: CPR, ECE units, Director training, COVID 19 guidelines, law enforcement clearance, etc. group. And other required training as needed.
  • Meet all state regulations to supervise a group of students alone (required)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 45K to 50K plus signing up bonus etc.

License/Certification

  • Primary Montessori Certification (Required)
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
