Charles Ellis Montessori Academy, a public Montessori school in Savannah, Georgia, seeks a certified Upper Elementary Montessori teacher to join our team. We are looking for an educator who is committed to fostering an inclusive, child-centered learning environment that upholds the Montessori philosophy. The ideal candidate will have a passion for empowering students to take ownership of their learning and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally in a public school setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a multi-age classroom for students in grades 4-6, using Montessori methods that align with Georgia state standards.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain an engaging classroom environment equipped with Montessori materials that support the needs of each student.
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans for each student, monitoring progress and making adjustments as necessary.
- Deliver hands-on, project-based lessons in core subjects (math, science, language arts, social studies) as well as practical life skills.
- Foster independence, collaboration, and problem-solving through Montessori-aligned group and individual activities.
- Ensure compliance with all district and state education requirements, assessments, and reporting while maintaining Montessori principles.
- Build strong, positive relationships with students, parents, and the wider school community, maintaining open communication and partnership.
- Collaborate with fellow educators, administrators, and support staff to provide a holistic, well-rounded educational experience for students.
- Participate in school events, professional development, and staff meetings, contributing to the continuous improvement of the school.
Qualifications:
- Montessori certification in Upper Elementary from an accredited institution (AMS, AMI, or MACTE) required.
- Georgia teaching certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Gifted certification (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Montessori classroom, ideally in a public school setting.
- Familiarity with Georgia state standards and assessments.
- Strong understanding of Montessori principles and child development.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, diverse public school environment.
