Objective: The Assistant Teacher understands and promotes the school’s mission, vision, goals, and policies within and outside the immediate school community. The teacher is responsible for supporting a Montessori classroom environment and curriculum that meets the children's individual needs. Candidates must actively embrace lifelong learning and a collaborative approach to education balanced with a strong sense of autonomy. A passion for outdoor education and a belief in deeply respectful parenting/teaching philosophies and restorative practices are necessary.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
- The Assistant ensures respect for children, parents, and colleagues, modeling Grace and Courtesy in all interactions.
- Maintains the equipment and ensures the facilities are clean, safe, and regularly inspected.
- Demonstrates an ability to relate sensitively to people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Possesses a professional manner, personal characteristics, and mental abilities necessary to work with young children, including respect for each child and their background, sensitivity to individual’s needs and learning styles, ability to follow the Lead teacher's guidance with appropriate challenges to meet each child’s learning development and exceptional amount of patience and flexibility.
- Meets all staff requirements of local and state regulatory agencies, including DCFS.
- Maintains current First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification.
- Fulfills cleaning responsibilities as applicable.
- Maintains the physical stamina to work effectively with young children; be able to see and hear children, sit on the floor, and lift 15 pounds safely.
- Serves as an ambassador for Montessori Private Academy in all communications and interactions with stakeholders, guided by MPA’s core values and AMS Code of Ethics.
- Demonstrates a leadership capacity and growth mindset.

Education and/or Experience: A high school diploma is required. A bachelor's degree or some college experience and prior experience working with children is preferred. Montessori experience is unnecessary, but an understanding of the philosophy is required. Hands-on training will be provided.
Schedule: This is a full-time position, starting in August 2025, Monday-Friday.
