Founded in 2012, Castle Island Bilingual Montessori is an AMS accredited and English/Spanish language immersion elementary school that fully implements the Montessori philosophy and method for children ages 3 - 12. The school has a brand new factility and is located in Downtown Albany, the Capital of New York State. Nearby are parks and playgrouds where the children have access to for daily recess and more. The school is also in the process of finalizing the construction of an Outdoor Classroom where the children can work during good weather. The program also takes advantage of walking to several outings such as theater, urban farm, public libriary branches, the NYS Museum, restaurants, tourism center, and art galleries. The E I/II community is made up 18 students, ages 6 - 12. The assistant, or co-lead, speaks and teaches in Spanish. Spanish fluency is desired, but not a requirement for this open position.

Requirements

-AMS or AMI Elementary I & II Credential
-Bachelor's (or higher) Degree
-5+ years teaching experience preferred
-Creativity and flexibility are strongly preferred at our staff culture of: positivity, professionalism and productivity
-Spanish proficiency NOT required as the lead teacher can teach only in English (and the teacher's assistant is a fluent Spanish speaker)

Duties

-Facilitate and deliver lessons and assessments with high fidelity to the Montessori philosophy and method in a mixed leveled classroom community

-Maintain and develop an ordered, rich, and purposeful prepared environment

-Collaborate with Spanish/Assistant Teacher to coordinate Spanish versions of culturals and language lessons and materials

-Develop and plan for enrichment including outings and guest speaker presentations

-Plan and facilitate parent/teacher conferences twice yearly and a monthly classroom newsletter

-Work collaboratively with staff colleagues to develop professionally and to coordinate family events

-Attend open houses and parent/family events throughout the year

-Attend and co-plan weekly staff development meetings

Compensation

-$40,000+ dependent upon higher ed degree and experience
-Paid vacation days: 29
