The Hans Christian Andersen Montessori School is actively seeking an experienced Teacher/Guide to work in our Primary Classroom.  Ideal candidates would be Primary Montessori certified through either AMS or AMI; however, other experienced candidates willing to pursue certification (with school support) would be considered. 

HCAMS is a small, well-established school with a beautiful, bright one-room classroom environment, located in a lovely rural landscape.

 Ideal candidate will possess the following qualities & skills:

Responsibilities/ Daily duties:

  • Work in collaboration with and support teachers/assistants in maintaining a harmonious, peaceful, clean classroom.
  • Plan and execute individual and group lessons and activities, aligning with Montessori philosophy. 
  • Participate in staff meetings, school functions, parent education, training, and professional development.
  • Direct students’ academic, social, emotional, and physical activities in a prepared Montessori environment that supports and challenges the whole child. 
  • Develop a warm and positive rapport with students. 
  • Foster independence, self-motivation, and a sense of community among students. 
  • Develop and implement new curricula and materials aligned with Montessori pedagogy, theory, and principles as needed. 
  • Always oversee the safety and physical well-being of the children. 
  • Maintain an orderly environment in good aesthetic condition. Model for the students how to share this responsibility. 
  • Maintain curriculum planning, observational and academic records, including progress reports. 
  • Manage classroom behaviors and implement peace education. 
  • Maintain written records of all parent meetings, phone calls, emails, etc. 
  • Prepare a weekly or biweekly update for parents. 
  • Hold parent-teacher conferences during the school year and provide on-going communication to parents as needed. 

Other considerations:

  • Able to perform light physical work and can lift and carry children weighing 15-30 lbs. Ability to bend, crouch, lift, kneel, sit on the floor and other light physical work.
  • Able to maintain a calm demeanor while under stress or pressure.
  • Participate in periodic meetings/ school events conducted outside of the normal workday.

Hours:

  • Full-time; Monday - Friday, 7:45 am - 3:45 pm
