General Position Description
The Assistant Guide is responsible for being a part of a cohesive teaching team, helping to maintain the curriculum with direction from the lead teacher, and helping manage the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. The assistant guide must work collectively with lead guides, and other assistants. Assistant Guides must support the lead teachers in maintaining a quality educational program following the Montessori philosophy and be. We are dedicated to providing children with an authentic Montessori education. This role will also be responsible for, and building partnerships with families to support our students in reaching their full potential. The Assistant Guide must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children.
This position reports to the Co-Director's.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the lead guides in maintaining a quality educational program following the Montessori philosophy
- Supervise and guide children throughout the day and assist in the implementation of daily program activities together with the lead guide and other assistant teachers.
- Display professionalism when communicating with faculty, staff, students and parents positively and effectively.
- Working with children ages birth to 3 years in a loving and nurturing way
- Attend professional development meetings and school events as a member of the school community
- Display a loving and caring demeanor to implement positive discipline methods that align with the school's high standards of caregiving
- Help students use the restroom and develop independence with personal hygiene (hand washing and bathroom usage). Diapering is required.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment.
- Model grace and courtesy with students and adults at all times.
- All required tasks are performed according to the policies and procedures of Everbloom Montessori and childcare regulatory agencies.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young children is preferred, but not required
- Willingness to learn and understand Montessori Philosophy
- Infant/child/adult CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of hire.
- Must clear full background check, tuberculosis test, and complete any required credentials for state licensing
Physical Requirements
- Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat, sit on the floor for extended periods of time, or crawl.
- Ability to lift approximately 25lbs.
