Primary Assistant Teacher

The Montessori School of Northern Virginia is a non-profit school providing authentic Montessori education.  Our learning environment is designed to directly benefit students social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.  MSNV is looking for an energetic Primary Assistant (ages 3-5) for our Sleepy Hollow Campus.

The Primary Assistant supports the work of the Lead Teacher when helping to guide the children's activities in acccordance with Montessori philosophy and school policies.The Assistant is to support the Lead Teacher in preparing and maintaining the environment in which the Montessori approach to education is implemented.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

• Carry out plans and directives of the Lead Teacher
• Respond to the needs of the children in a way that is respectful of the child's pursuit of independence and self-reliance
• Bring to the classroom expertise and creative energies
• Work with individual children and small groups as directed by the Lead Teacher
• Assist any child with a problem
• Assist children with follow-up work
• Manage and supervise the classroom while Lead Teacher is working with children or when Lead Teacher is out of the classroom
• Share in the responsibility for the safety and well-being of the children at all times
• Responsible for care and maintenance of classroom and materials

Qualifications

The Preprimary Assistant Teacher will have a high school degree and at least two years of experience in a pre-school enviornment.  Montessori experience highly desired.  Must be able to physically assist children in the classroom and/or the playground which includes occassional lifting.
