POSITION AVAILABLE: UPPER ELEMENTARY TEACHER
Torit Montessori School is an infant through sixth-grade independent school on Boston’s historic Beacon Hill. Our mission is to educate bright and capable students in the spirit of Dr. Maria Montessori’s groundbreaking methods, allowing students to explore materials, ideas, and applications at their own pace, with guidance, direction, and encouragement from teachers.
DESCRIPTION and REQUIREMENTS:
We seek a dynamic Lower Elementary Teacher for a combined age classroom, grades 1-3. Candidates should be familiar with the developmental needs of 6-9 year olds as well as current theories and practices that support an excellent elementary program. The successful candidate will lead all aspects of the school experience in literacy, math, science, and social studies. We are especially interested in taking advantage of the city as our classroom. The teacher is responsible for supervising the classroom environment, developing and delivering curriculum, establishing classroom routines, family communications, record keeping, and developing strong partnerships with colleagues and families. We actively seek candidates who will reflect and enhance the racial, cultural, and gender diversity of our school community. This position is full-time with benefits.
We are a small school, and every teacher is expected to pitch in with humor and good will to keep Torit humming. We all soothe upset kids, support stressed parents, and roll up our sleeves to help without being asked. We sing in Arabic, Mandarin, and Spanish (we teach all three!). QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS required; MA preferred
- 3 years teaching experience or equivalent required
- 6-9 Montessori certification a plus
- MA elementary education license a plus
