For immediate hire for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year and to continue for subsequent school years. The individual selected for this position will have the opportunity to be onboarded by our current school nurse who has been part of the Oak Grove Team for 14 years.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for promoting the health and well-being of students, providing medical care, and ensuring a safe and healthy school environment. The School Nurse will serve as a critical resource for students, staff, and families regarding health-related issues.
Oak Grove Montessori School is an independent Montessori school serving Early Childhood (3-6 year olds) through Upper Elementary (4-6th grade), with a current enrollment of 60 students. We are committed to fostering a lifelong love of learning through the development of self-discipline and independence. Our intentionally small school community is situated on a sprawling natural campus in a rural neighborhood setting. We are close to Hartford and the University of Connecticut campuses, within 1.5 hours of Boston and are also close to hiking and coastal areas, a huge draw for those who love outdoor recreation. Our school has been established for over 40 years and employs a supportive staff of professionals dedicated to providing quality Montessori education to children.
Responsibilities
- Assess and manage student health concerns, including acute illnesses and injuries.
- Maintain accurate medical records for each student, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
- Administer medications and injections as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals to develop individualized health plans for students with chronic conditions.
- Provide education on health topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.) and follow up on referrals as necessary.
- Respond to emergencies in accordance with established protocols.
- Monitor student immunization records to ensure compliance with state mandates.
- Participate in the development of school health policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications per CT State Regulations
- Hold a valid RN license from the Connecticut State Department of Public Health to practice professional nursing.
- Has one year of nursing experience within the last five years.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Shall participate in and complete fifteen hours of professional development as required by the local/regional board of education within each two-year period
Preferred Qualifications
- Has successfully completed two years of full-time equivalent (FTE) employment in nursing, one of which must be in pediatric, adolescent, community, or public health nursing within the past five years or one year FTE employment in pediatric, adolescent, community or public health nursing within the past five years and fifteen semester hours of a graduate program leading to master's degree with concentration in nursing.
- Has successfully completed a bachelor's degree program in nursing or thirty credit hours toward a master's degree program in nursing from a NLN accredited school.
- Certification in school nursing by national nursing certifying body, when eligible.
