JOB DESCRIPTION
Background: Located on historic Calhoun Street, close to the May River, May River Montessori (herein referred to as MRM) has been educating the children of Bluffton and the surrounding areas for more than thirty years. Currently enrolled are approximately 150 children. May River Montessori is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) school for children ages 2-14 (toddlers through eighth grade).
Philosophy: The Executive Director serves as a centralizing leadership figure within the school and local community. The Executive Director should share the same long term vision for the future direction of the school, continuing to support and encourage the preservation of the unique culture and the Montessori philosophy of the school.
Minimum Qualifications: We require a B.A. degree in a related field, background in Montessori education, and administrative experience in an educational setting or a leadership position in another field. We also require a candidate with experience with personnel management who is able to manage a budget and and engage with parents, the board, donors, and the community.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in a related field; additional administrative or managerial experience; experience with grant writing, community outreach, and strategic planning. Montessori teaching credential is desirable.

Principal Duties
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school while ensuring a safe, educational and friendly environment
- Ensure classroom adherence to authentic Montessori curriculum and standards as well as consistency of classroom practices
- Coordinate and monitor continuing education/professional development/Montessori training for staff
- Maintain a high level of satisfaction and customary working conditions for all employees
- Manage the scheduling of enrichment programs to supplement students’ education (music, art, gardening, Spanish)
- Oversee and approve extra-curricular programming such as field trips and special events
- Engage in conflict resolution between teachers, parents, staff
- Regular evaluation of teacher performance and classroom practices
- Accountability for the administrative success of all school programs
- Public representative of MRM in the local community at large
- Additional duties necessary to fulfill the mission of May River Montessori as set forth by its Board or as required to optimize the school’s performance
STAFF MEMBERS
- Supervision and evaluation of all personnel
- Recruitment and election and hiring of administrative, teaching, and non-teaching personnel when needed
- Administer/schedule professional development for all staff members
- Assist and guide Lead Teachers to aid them in achieving their educational goals
ADMINISTRATION
- Conduct and oversee the recruitment and enrollment of students
- Ensure that current and comprehensive student, staff, and prospective parent records are kept
- Oversee and maintain school discipline policy in a consistent and respectful manner
- Coordinate scheduling of all required school functions, activities, and teacher training
- Coordinate with staff to facilitate internal and external school communications
- Serve as a non-voting member on the Board of Trustees and attend all Board meetings and functions to provide school operation updates and issues.
- Participate in the development and execution of fundraising plans
- Oversee the financial policy set in place by the Board of Trustees
