Part-time Art Teacher (20 hours/week)

Join our team as an Art Teacher at the Montessori School of Durham!
Are you passionate about nurturing creativity and fostering a love of art in children? The Montessori School of Durham is seeking a warm, dynamic, and enthusiastic Art Teacher to inspire our K-6th grade students to explore their artistic potential and express themselves through various mediums. This part-time position is ideal for someone who is dedicated to art education and values the Montessori approach to teaching.

As an Art Teacher, you’ll play an essential role in creating a positive, supportive, and creative environment where students of all backgrounds can thrive. You'll have the opportunity to develop an engaging curriculum, lead small group lessons, and inspire young learners to develop their artistic skills and appreciation for diverse forms of art. Plus, you’ll have additional opportunities to lead summer camps and art enrichments throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

• Create and implement a rich, Montessori-inspired art curriculum for students ages 5-12, focusing on exploration and creative expression.
• Teach various art techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, while fostering a hands-on, experiential learning environment.
• Introduce students to a diverse range of artists, art styles, and cultural perspectives, promoting inclusivity and global awareness.
• Inspire and guide students to experiment with different artistic materials and methods, encouraging both independent and collaborative work.
• Foster a safe, nurturing, and engaging space where students feel encouraged to express themselves freely through their art.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
• Previous teaching experience, preferably in a Montessori or similar progressive elementary educational setting.
• Strong proficiency in various art techniques and media, including drawing, painting, and sculpture.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine passion for working with children and a collaborative spirit.
• A commitment to creating an inspiring and inclusive artistic environment that celebrates diversity.

Hours & Benefits:

• This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week, 3 days a week, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.).
